Breast Lift

Board-Certified Cosmetic Surgeon Serving Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Canton, Brighton, Detroit & Nearby Michigan areas

For many women, breast drooping or sagging is a fear that becomes all-too-real with age. Whether it’s due to the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding, a successful weight loss, or gravity’s natural pull, the skin around your breasts gradually loses elasticity (its ability to retain shape), causing them to sit lower on your chest or point downward.

A breast lift can help lift them back to a more youthful position, providing you with the youthful feminine curves and confidence you deserve at any age.

We would love to speak with you about your specific breast lift goals and concerns. To learn more about our award-winning practice or any of the breast enhancement services we provide please call our office at 734-971-0262 to schedule a complimentary initial consultation. Board-certified surgeons Jessica West, DO and Robert Burke, MD welcome women and men in the Ann Arbor, Plymouth-Canton, Brighton, and nearby Michigan areas, as well as those traveling from out of town.

What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a cosmetic breast procedure that is performed to restore a youthful position and perky appearance of the breasts. This is done by removing excess skin and reshaping the underlying breast tissue to lift the breasts and nipples above the lower breast fold.

Breast Lift Benefits

The breast lift is an excellent option for women looking to address drooping of their breasts (ptosis) or downward pointing nipples. When performed alone, a breast lift will not increase breast volume and in many cases, women benefit from pairing their lift with breast implants in order to avoid a flat appearance. Implants may not be necessary if you are experiencing sagging, but have adequate breast tissue.

Ideal Candidates for a Breast Lift

If you are unhappy with sagging of your breasts or nipples that point downwards, a breast lift can help you to restore a youthful position and appearance. This surgery is especially common for women whose breasts have experienced a loss of elasticity following pregnancy and breastfeeding, or following significant weight loss. Breast sagging is also a natural concern for women as they get older.

Some women may choose to combine their lift with a breast augmentation in order to also increase their natural breast size or replenish volume that has been lost with age, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations. Many mothers undergo a full mommy makeover to address the physical effects of pregnancy and childbirth through a personalized combination of cosmetic procedures with Dr. West or Dr. Burke.

In some cases of severe breast sagging, a breast reduction may be a better option for achieving your goal outcome. During your consultation, Dr. West or Dr. Burke will carefully analyze your situation and listen to your goals and concerns to determine if a breast lift is a good option for you.

Breast Lift Recovery & Follow Up

Following your surgery, you will be able to return home that same day. Light dressing will be placed over the incision lines, and you will be provided with a support bra (worn for several weeks) to assist with proper breast healing.

In most cases, patients are able to control any pain or discomfort with oral medication. You should feel well enough to resume light activity and return to work within about 7-10 days. We recommend waiting about six weeks to resume regular exercise and lifting.

Breast Lift Results

Breast lift surgery is designed to provide you with a younger, more elevated appearance of the breasts. Many women also experience a boost in their self-confidence and are more excited to wear certain clothing, such as dresses, bikinis, lingerie, or even a favorite t-shirt. You will feel like yourself – only younger and more confident.

Results from breast lift surgery are long-lasting, but it is important to keep in mind that your body will continue to age and no surgical procedure can completely stop the aging process. Future pregnancies or weight fluctuations can also impact the look of your breasts moving forward.

The Cost of a Breast Lift

The cost of your breast lift will vary based on several factors including methods used for your procedure. You will be provided with a detailed estimate for your breast lift based on the various items discussed during your consultation. At this time, we will also be more than happy to discuss the different payment and financing options available at Michigan Center for Cosmetic Surgery.
