Facial aging is one of the major concerns we hear from our patients. Over time, the skin around your face and neck begins to lose elasticity, causing an aged or tired appearance despite you still feeling like your youthful self. Jowls, a turkey neck, or deep wrinkles and folds can all take a toll on your self-confidence. A facelift and neck lift can help to tighten the skin and reshape the underlying facial tissues for a lifted and naturally youthful appearance.
We would love to speak with you about your facelift and neck lift goals and concerns. To learn more about our award-winning practice or any of the services we provide please call our office at 734-971-0262 to schedule a complimentary initial consultation. Board-certified surgeons Jessica West, DO and Robert Burke, MD welcome women and men in the Ann Arbor, Plymouth-Canton, Brighton, and nearby Michigan areas, as well as those traveling from out of town.
What Is a Facelift?
There are few procedures as synonymous with cosmetic surgery as the facelift. This facial surgery, which is also known as a rhytidectomy, is performed to minimize the appearance of facial aging in the mid to lower regions of the face. This is achieved by a careful and methodical combination of:
- Removing excess skin to smooth wrinkles and folds and tighten skin
- Reshaping the underlying facial tissues to achieve more youthful facial contours
- Tightening the skin to provide a rejuvenating lift and improve issues with skin drooping or sagging (such as jowls)
A traditional facelift typically involves incisions made in front of the ear and within the hairline in order to minimize visible scarring. From there, Dr. West or Dr. Burke will be able to reshape the underlying tissue to provide a strong and youthful foundation. Small amounts of excess fat may also be removed at this time. Dr. West or Dr. Burke will then trim away any excess skin in order to improve skin laxity. The skin is then carefully pulled tight and incisions are closed in order to achieve a lifted and naturally younger-looking appearance.
Non-Surgical Treatment Alternatives
Facetite Radiofrequency Facelift (Minimally Invasive)
FaceTite is the most advanced minimally invasive facial contouring procedure available, providing surgical-like results with dramatically less downtime and without large scars. FaceTite provides a dramatic improvement in skin laxity on the face and neck, which was previously only attainable through a surgical procedure like a lower neck and facelift. FaceTite utilizes minimally invasive radio-frequency energy to melt fat and tighten skin. Morpheus8 Microneedle is a fractional treatment that stimulates collagen production of the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in enhanced skin tightening and texture when combined with Facetite.
Silhouette InstaLift™ (Non-Surgical)
InstaLift is a non-surgical in-office approach to lifting the mid-face, lower face and neck known as suture suspension. Absorbable sutures are strategically placed beneath the skin to immediately lift and reposition the mid-face tissue. In addition, InstaLift helps to stimulate your body’s collagen regeneration for ongoing results and gradual volumization.
This type of facial lifting is also known as a thread lift.
Liquid Facelift (Non-Surgical)
Dr. West and Dr. Burke’s liquid facelift can be customized based on your specific needs in order to provide you with a complete rejuvenation of your face without having to undergo surgery. Known as our V Lift, this non-surgical alternative to the facelift will provide you with maximum correction of lines, wrinkles, and volume loss with little to no time off work.
What Is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift focuses on skin aging or sagging of the neck and beneath the jawline. Similar to the facelift, this is achieved by addressing the underlying muscle and tissue and removing excess skin in order to create a firmer, younger-looking contour of the neck.
Neck lift surgery, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is performed to address common concerns, such as:
- Skin laxity, or looseness, of the neck (ie: a turkey neck)
- Muscle banding in the neck
The neck lift is often performed in combination with a facelift to provide well-balanced and very natural-looking outcomes. Neck lift can also be performed with submental liposuction to remove an excess adipose tissue, or fat, in the neck area.
Ideal Candidates for a Facelift & Neck Lift
A facelift and neck lift may be the right option for you if you are experiencing loose or sagging skin in your mid to lower face and/or neck. Dr. West and Dr. Burke will customize your facelift and neck lift surgery based on your unique concerns and the current condition of your skin. While no surgery can stop the aging process, a facelift can help to maintain a youthful appearance throughout life.
Recovery From Surgery
Following your facelift and neck lift surgery, you will be able to return home that same day. Bruising and swelling is to be expected, and typically is most noticeable about two days following surgery. You should notice significantly less bruising and swelling at 10-14 days after your procedure.
Most patients are able to resume normal activity at about two weeks, and more strenuous exercise at roughly 4-6 weeks. It is important to not push yourself in order to allow for optimal healing. Dr. West and Dr. Burke will schedule follow-up visits with you to check up on your progress and will be able to answer any questions you may have.
Facelift & Neck Lift Results
Facelift and neck lift surgery will provide you with tighter skin and a naturally lifted appearance of the mid to lower face and neck. Results are designed to appear as though you have simply turned back the clock on your appearance – revealing a younger, more confident version of yourself. While no surgery can completely halt the aging process, your facelift and neck lift will help to maintain a more youthful appearance as you get older.
Complementary Procedures to a Facelift & Neck Lift
Facelift and neck lift surgery are often performed in combination with other cosmetic facial surgery options in order to address aging of the entire face. Depending on your unique circumstances, Dr. West and Dr. Burke may recommend considering supplementing your facelift and neck lift with one or more of the following facial surgeries:
- Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
- Brow Lift
- Facial Liposuction
The Cost of Facelift & Neck Lift Surgery
The cost of your facelift and/or neck lift surgery will vary based on several factors, including the method used for your facelift procedure, and whether you are having both surgeries performed together. You will be provided with a detailed estimate for your facial surgery based on the various items discussed during your consultation. At this time, we will also be more than happy to discuss the different payment and financing options available at Michigan Center for Cosmetic Surgery.
