What Is Breast Reduction for Men?

Male breast reduction surgery is performed to treat gynecomastia, helping to create a flatter, more masculine shape for the chest. This is often performed with liposuction of the chest, and can be combined with skin tightening modalities for superior cosmetic outcomes.

Am I a Candidate for Gynecomastia Surgery?

The cause of gynecomastia is not fully known, and it often persists despite diet and exercise. Before considering male breast reduction, it is recommended that you are close to your ideal weight in order to minimize any excess fat that might be causing an enlarged appearance of the breasts alone.

Male breast reduction will help to reduce excess tissue causing an enlarged or feminine appearance of your chest. The result is a flatter, stronger, and more masculine contouring of the pectoral region.

What Should I Expect During Recovery from Male Breast Reduction?

Following your breast reduction, surgical dressings will be placed over your incision lines. These are to be worn for several weeks in order to ensure proper healing of the skin and tissue.

In most cases, oral medication should be enough to help manage any initial discomfort. You will be able to resume light activity and work within the first 7-10 days of your breast reduction surgery. However, you should avoid heavy lifting for roughly six weeks.

What Results Should I Expect from Breast Reduction Surgery?

As with any procedure, results from male breast reduction will vary with each patient. Generally, you can expect a toned, masculine appearance to your chest, with little to no presence of "man boobs." Dr. West and Dr. Burke are committed to a natural look and appearance.

By eating healthy and exercising regularly, the results of breast reduction surgery for men should be permanent.
