Many struggle with feeling self-conscious about the appearance of their nose, whether because of its size, shape, angle, or any number of reasons. Because the nose is the central most part of the face, even the slightest imperfection can cause a person to feel as though their features are out of balance or harmony. Rhinoplasty is a completely rewarding and life-changing cosmetic surgery procedure that works to reshape and refine the nose in order to achieve a harmonious and beautifully balanced appearance.
We would love to speak with you about your nose surgery goals and concerns. To learn more about our award-winning practice or any of the services we provide please call our office at 734-971-0262 to schedule a complimentary initial consultation. Board-certified surgeons Jessica West, DO and Robert Burke, MD welcome women and men in the Ann Arbor, Plymouth-Canton, Brighton, and nearby Michigan areas, as well as those traveling from out of town.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery used to change the structure and appearance of the nose. Dr. West and Dr. Burke perform this as either an open (incisions are made externally, beneath the nose) or closed (incisions are made within the nostrils) procedure. Through the incision, they are able to reshape the underlying cartilage in order to achieve the desired shape, specific to your unique goals and concerns.
This popular nose surgery can be used to address a wide range of aesthetic concerns with the nose’s appearance, including its:
- Size (i.e., too big or too small in relation to overall facial balance)
- Width of the bridge or nostrils
- Profile (i.e., to minimize the appearance of a nasal hump)
- Nasal tip (i.e., one that is enlarged, droops downward, or is upturned)
- General asymmetry
However, nose surgery can also offer patients several medical benefits as well. Dr. West and Dr. Burke can perform rhinoplasty to help correct problems with a deviated septum or obstructed airway.
Rhinoplasty Recovery & Follow Up
Following your surgery, Dr. West or Dr. Burke will apply the necessary dressings and/or splints. You will be able to return home under the care of a loved one that same day, but should expect to get plenty of rest.
There will be noticeable bruising and swelling around your nose after surgery. This will gradually subside over the first few weeks. It can take up to a year for your nose to fully heal to its final contours. Swelling tends to fluctuate throughout this period, and may be more noticeable when you first wake up in the morning.
Dr. West or Dr. Burke will provide you with specific care instructions to help you throughout the recovery period. This will include information on caring for your nose, any recommended medications, and when to come in for follow-up visits.
Rhinoplasty is a very technical procedure that must only be performed by a board certified surgeon like Dr. West or Dr. Burke. Both Dr. West and Dr. Burke will take the necessary time with you to fully understand your expectations and create a fully customized surgery plan designed to achieve a beautiful and naturally-looking outcome.
It will take some time to fully heal from your surgery, and it may take up to a full year for final results. However, the results from your rhinoplasty are permanent and will provide you with a well-balanced nose made specially for your unique facial shape. Patients who have undergone rhinoplasty with Dr. West or Dr. Burke often experience a boost in their self-confidence and have a more positive view of themselves.
The Cost of Rhinoplasty
The cost of your rhinoplasty will vary based on several factors, including the specific methods used for your surgery. You will be provided with a detailed estimate for your nose surgery based on the various items discussed during your consultation. At this time, we will also be more than happy to discuss the different payment and financing options available at Michigan Center for Cosmetic Surgery.
